What is Tuina ?

Tuina is a therapeutic form of medical massage that has its roots in China where it developed over 2000 years ago. Tuinamassage therapy can be used for all ages, it uses specialised rhythm and compression techniques along different Qi energy channels on the body in order to establish free flowing Qi and bringing it back to balance.

Tuina can make use of other Chinese medicines like acupuncture to enhance the healing process, many of the massage techniques used in Tuina are similar to western style massages, but Tuina makes use of acupressure on certain points of the body where Qi is said to become blocked, this acupressure can remove the blockages and allow the energy to flow freely through the meridians (channels) thus facilitating the healing process.

How does Tuina work ?

Typical sessions of Tuina can last from 30 minutes to an hour, the time is dependent on the individuals condition. The main benefit of Tuina is that the massages can focus on certain parts of the body in order to aid with pain and inflammation. A typical session will involve different types of hand movements such as gliding, kneading, vibration, tapping, friction, pulling, rolling, pressing, shaking and acupressure.

The greatest advantage of Tuina is that it has its main focus on stimulating the person mentally as well as physically, thus the person is able to avoid any chemical based treatments which aren’t natural. Tuina massage is slowly becoming a more accepted therapy that focuses on treating specific issues rather than just a general treatment.
