What is Chinese Herbal Medicine ?

Chinese herbal medicine is perhaps one of the most widely used TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicines), it relies on herbal therapies in order to treat diseases. There are over 5000 different TCM herbal remedies to suit different types of issues such as illnesses, pains, inflammations and digestion issues.

How does Chinese Herbal Medicine work ?

The most traditional method of Chinese Herbal Medicine is preparing (by crushing and mixing herbs) herbal formulas and decoctions which is a lengthy process, there are also pre-made herbal powders which are mixed together with hot water and drank like a tea, these are more convenient to prepare than the decoctions. There are also syrups which are soothing preparations made for coughs and sore throats and liniments which are plasters or salves covered with a herbal remedy then compressed on the affected area in order to treat pains and inflammation.

Why should I study Chinese Herbal Medicine at Shulan College ?

Chinese herbal medicine is a great method of providing daily support to your patients, making treatments more effective. Chinese herbal medicine is often the choice for the more deep rooted conditions that require a more internal approach.  Since May 2011, Chinese herbal patent medicine has been regulated in the UK by the European Traditional Herbal Directive. This means that we can no longer simply prescribe patent herbal medicine to our patients. Prescribing herbs in dried or granule form is now the only method to get Chinese herbal medicine to our patients. By studying our Chinese Herbal Medicine Courses, you will be able to build a unique herbal prescription, or  modify the classic and modern formulas, to tailor each prescription to your patient’s needs.
